statement of intent

Statement of intent – Hashim Shah
I intend to create a music video which seamlessly goes hand in hand with my song of choice (Butterfly Effect by Travis Scott). I will be following a loose story-line however my video will be heavily focused on the cinematography itself, attempting to create similar themes which are used by other music videos in this genre, whilst aiming to entice the target audience of 17-25-year olds. To ensure this, I have chosen a dark theme which is similar to many music videos in this genre and has been proven to be a successful music video theme with my chosen demographic. In addition to this, the artist in my music video will be dressed in clothing which is familiar to them and that they may well wear regularly. I have also used brands such as ‘Supreme’ in my music video as it has shown to be a brand which is definitely favoured by my target audience. I have chosen to use quite natural lighting in my music video as I will be making it look as if the artists in the video aren’t being filmed. Lighting from street lamps, car headlights and advertising billboards will be the main source of light in this music video. I will edit my music to the beat of the song as the majority of music videos in this genre use this technique to make the viewers more interested in the content. Finally, I will be filming this on an iPhone in 1080p at 60 frames per second, and it will be edited using iMovie. I believe this will be the most effective platform to edit on as it will be extremely quick to transfer video footage from an iPhone to an iMac.
My music video website will create an extremely strong brand identity as it will have many vehicles of accessing information about the artist from. There will be a few short and concise paragraphs/bullet points highlighting some information on the artist and how they entered the music industry. Just above this will be links to my artists Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter – which will be in the form of clickable logos. I have put the artists social media accounts on the website to give the artist exposure and create publicity The logo I have chosen I have chosen is a simple white arrow pointing right on top of a black circular background. The overall theme of the website will be generic white text on a black background with plenty of images of the artist and links to music/music videos. When the artist has released new music recently or has an upcoming tour, these will be heavily advertised on the website. For every image there will be a few short lines of text loosely explaining what it is and why it is on the website. Following my research, I believe that this theme of website is easy for my target audience to understand and enjoy, whilst being able to seamlessly add in links, images and text.
In my music video I have used certain brands on the artists clothing which I have mirrored onto the website in the photos of my artist. The same people in my music video have been used on my website also, with direct links to their social media accounts. As soon as the website is opened, there will be a visual link to my music video on YouTube at the top of the page which will make it extremely accessible for viewers. It will be the users choice as to whether they want to watch their music video within the website on the browser they are using, or they can watch it in the YouTube app if they wish.

Contingency Plan

Contingency Plan In my media music video I have a plan in place in case any of my actors are unwell, are suffering from injuries or can't make the day of filming. If an actor has fallen unwell for the day of filming, I have left enough time to allow myself to postpone the filming day until they are well enough to film again. If any of my actors have any injuries, I may try to incorporate their injuries into my music video. e.g. broken arm or broken leg. The shots which I have chosen will look good in my music video if the weather is rainy or dry. I have filmed using my iPhone before, and rain isn't very visible through the camera lens. In addition to this, I will be filming at night or in the evening, which will make rain even less visible than if filming during the day. As my media music video has a somewhat dark theme, the rain may have a positive effect.

First draft media music video

This is the first draft of my media music video. I have used the majority of my shots in the first draft, however a few have been left out due to complications with editing software. In the second draft a few more shots will be used in the video along with some special effects. Complex transitions have been used in my first draft - e.g, blur, fade, dissolve, reverse, fast and slow motion effects The second draft of my music video, will involve removing certain shots after careful consideration. I believe that some shots do not fit in with the dark and serious theme of my music video, therefore tarnishing the overall look and feel of the video. The overall order of my music video will stay the same, with the majority of the transitions and special effects being the same.

editing

Brief overview of filming: I filmed my media music video in 1080p at 60 frames per second on an iPhone 7. Editing Process: As I filmed my music video on an apple phone, it would be incredibly easy for me to edit on an apple computer also. I transferred the array of video clips to my MacBook, and then dragged them into iMovie. I then put all my clips on the timeline and began to trim away and take out clips that were unnecessary, e.g. scenes which I had filmed more than once to get the perfect take. After I took away the majority of the surplus clips - I then took away even more to get my video to approximately 2 minutes and thirty sections. I knew the requirement for the music video was 3 minutes, so therefore i factored in that my special effects, transitions and slow motion shots will add time in my video. I next began to add in transitions in between scenes along with some slow motion and fast forward effects to some select shots. Once this was done I added in the soundt...
